Why Mechanical Engineering at FIU?
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering provides students with the background suitable for employment in a wide variety of fields, including the energy industry, manufacturing, robotics and mechatronics, etc. It is also excellent preparation for graduate studies in Engineering, Medicine, or Business Administration.
The Mechanical & Materials Engineering (MME) Department at Florida International University (FIU) offers a curriculum that is designed to give our students a thorough understanding of the basic laws of science and to stimulate and develop creative thinking, a professional attitude, economic judgment, and environmental consciousness.
The aim is to develop the students’ potential to the fullest, to prepare the students for superior performance as engineers, and to provide the students with the fundamental principles necessary for pursuing advanced study in the diverse fields of engineering, science and business.
The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering is designed to give the student a thorough understanding of the basic laws of science in any of the following major areas: a) Fluid/Thermal Science, b) Mechanics Materials and Design, or c) Design, Robotics and Manufacturing. The program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET.
Prospective students are encouraged to apply as early as possible, in order to complete the admissions process. Requirements include a high school degree from an accredited institution, official SAT/ACT scores, transcripts from all previously attended post-secondary institutions.
Undergraduate minors available are: Minor in Aerospace Engineering, Minor in Energy Systems, Minor in Engineering Science, Minor in Mechanical Design, and Minor in Robotics and Mechatronics
FIU and the College of Engineering and Computing offer a variety of financial aid opportunities and scholarships to qualified students. The amounts and eligibility requirements of these awards vary depending on the type of award. Merit-based financial assistance is highly competitive, hence, students are encouraged to apply early.
